A four-day hut-to-hut traverse of the Eastern Alps with gentle descents — an ideal first ski tour.
The four-day Silvretta Traverse is a scenic and rewarding ski-touring route through the Eastern Alps, on the border of Austria and Switzerland — a perfect mix of moderate ascents, fine descents and breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks.
With comfortable nights in welcoming mountain huts, its gentle descents make it an ideal first ski tour in the Alps. Up to 900m of ascent per day,mid February to April by arrangement; the traverse can be extended with optional peaks from each hut.
Itinerary
- Day 1Ischgl → Heidelberger Hütte
Start in Ischgl with a little lift-assisted skiing and a gear check. A cable car to Idalp, then a gentle ski ascent to the picturesque Heidelberger Hütte (2,264m), just across the Austrian–Swiss border.
Overnight Heidelberger Hütte (2,264m)
- Day 2Kronenjoch → Jamtalhütte
Ascend to the Kronenjoch col (2,980m), with the option to summit Krone (3,188m) or Breite Krone (3,079m), then a scenic descent into the Jamtal valley.
Overnight Jamtalhütte (2,165m)
- Day 3Ochsenscharte → Wiesbadener Hütte
Climb toward the Ochsenscharte (2,913m), with an optional ascent of the Dreiländerspitze (3,197m), followed by a descent to the iconic Wiesbadener Hütte (2,443m).
Overnight Wiesbadener Hütte (2,443m)
- Day 4Piz Buin → Galtür → Ischgl
A final stunning ascent of Piz Buin (3,312m) or the Rauhkopfscharte (2,991m), then down to Galtür and back to Ischgl.
