Why choose a certified IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA guide?

IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA is the German, French, and English abbreviation for the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations. All IFMGA guides undergo rigorous training in all aspects of alpine, rock, and ice climbing, as well as backcountry skiing, rescue techniques, and client safety. This certification, verified by a series of exams, is internationally recognised and represents a commitment to safety, expertise, and professionalism.

An IFMGA guide is a guarantee of legal operation in the mountains, in particular in the Alps (Austrian, Italian, French, Swiss, Slovenian): legally guiding clients to summits is only possible for guides holding an IFMGA license. The guide can lead clients to peaks that are not accessible by marked trails and require specific skills.

About Me

I’m Ilona Gaweda, I’m Polish and in fact the first and (so far) only Polish female IFMGA-certified mountain guide. Since 2015 I’m based in Switzerland.

As one of the few female mountain guides in this field, I offer a unique perspective, combining technical expertise with a commitment to empowering others to reach their goals. In addition to guiding, I’m also a software engineer, bringing insights from both worlds—translating lessons learned in the mountains into the professional realm, which I enjoy sharing with my clients.

Whether you’re a beginner looking to take your first steps on a rock face or an experienced mountaineer aiming for a new summit or learning new skills, I’m here to guide you through every step of your journey. Together, let’s explore, learn, and push boundaries in some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Thank you for stopping by, and I look forward to the adventure ahead!
